Sarah Webb's Poetry

My poetry collection, Black, from Virtual Artists Collective was published in 2013.  It can be ordered through this website (best for me—Paypal) or at independent bookstores (the vacpoetry.org site can direct you to these), Powell's, or Amazon.

It is in stock in Austin, TX at BookWoman and Malvern Books. In Oklahoma City it is carried by Full Circle Bookstore.

The best for me is if you will order from this website or buy at a reading.

The poems in Black come in large or small ways from the peoples of all the major religions and shamanism. Poems call on the traditions of every continent as well as from ancients living before times in memory. I made up modern myths too and told stories from science and everyday life.

My aim in all of it was to find the root beneath the hints and stories. What is it that we all share, that we sense beneath the surface?

Black is … and a poem

Here is a poem from Black.  It was first published in Blue Hole in 2012.

The People Who Live Here

Some people want this desert land:
the low mesquite, yellowed grass,
cottonwood, yucca, prickly pear.
They live in the tin-roofed houses, trailers,
drive the tractors with dust
pouring up and around them,
wave at our train.
Some wait bitter for the school bus,
plan lives in faraway Tempe, Phoenix,
but beside them stand cousins
who gaze out over the rangeland
to hills dotted with juniper
and taste that long look.
These are people who want
the way cloud shadows move over the scrub.
They want the rain stinks
of mud and sagebrush and cows.
They do not mind the dusts
or the glitter in the air.
They stand beside the dry sand of the river
and feel something moving under it.

give me instructions on signing it

If you buy a copy of Black and you want it signed, you might say who to (yourself, someone else, you as a couple) and anything else I might need to know in signing it.  Aiming to please!
I believe the buy button works now.  Let me know if it doesn't.
whew!
I've been told the buy now button doesn't function.  I'm working on the problem right now (Sun 10:45 AM)

My book Black is coming out in a week.  I'm excited.  Thanks so much to Steven Schroeder and Virtual Artists Collective for putting it out.  And to Regina Schroeder for the great cover.  They did a lovely job.

Leaving Crosstimbers

I have submitted my resignation as Poetry and Fiction Editor to Crosstimbers

It has been a great time in my life, these twelve years working with Cecil Lee and Ingrid Shafer and the many marvelous poets and writers who published in the journal.  We started local and explored Oklahoma and our place on the Plains, but we grew to a community of writers nationwide and then worldwide in countries like Austria, Lebanon, and Australia.  I am proud of Crosstimbers and the voice we gave to so many writers and artists.  I felt we represented our college, the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma, in its truest mission, that of encouraging creation and insight across disciplines.

The future of the journal is uncertain.  It may continue online under Ingrid's editorship or it may be replaced with a more academic publication.  When I hear, I'll post the outcome of the deliberations.  If Crosstimbers does continue, I'll let you know where to send your writing.

Thank you for sharing such wonderful work.  It's been a rich diet reading it and working with you.
